The Recommender system supports production of live, interactive TV formats by providing mechanisms and tools for content personalization, consumer and group profiling, and consumer feedback collection and analysis for the TV production. The main goal is to provide personalization and feedback mechanisms integrated into the live production, which will allow the production team to provide new kind of multi-stream, multi-story, interactive and personalized TV programme, heavily supported by illustrative background material from the TV archives, resulting in a new level of interactive TV experience for the TV viewers.

The Recommender system is providing tools and services for the professional live TV production, including

• support for personalisation of the live TV formats by providing archive content search functionalities, based on the Editor’s queries and personalized according to the preferences of the TV viewers, and
• support for usage of real-time feedback information within live production. Services are developed to collect feedback from individual Consumers, build user profiles, analyse preferences of user groups, and present an overall overview of the current status of the programme audience to the production team. The feedback methods and tools allow a new level of interactivity for the Consumer and support a new kind of real-time audience-Director communication and interaction.

The Recommender system provides a central management of user feedback and user profiles within LIVE system within its database component, it provides system services to collect feedback and analyse it, and it provides professional applications (user interfaces) which are being used by the production team. The main conceptual building blocks are the following:

• Content recommender for the TV production, which includes Recommender GUI, and provides content search and personalization functionalities.
• Feedback collection and storage.
• Feedback analysis and user profiling services.
• Feedback Application GUI which displays the overall results of the feedback to the members of the production team.
