The main purpose of the Event Ingest Tool is to provide the possibility to ingest data from external sources (specifically the ATOS Sport Information System) into the IMF, as well as handle subscriptions to changes from external sources. Additionally, the external events have to be annotated using controlled vocabularies from the IMF.

The functional parts of the Event Ingest Tool are the following:

• Participant Ingest: Allows participants (athletes) from the external source to be ingested into the IMF. The annotation happens automatically; athletes are associated with their country of birth, the national Olympic committee and the discipline in which they participate.
• Event and Event Setting Ingest: Events and event settings are ingested by using the structure of the external source. General information about the events (e.g. name, date and time of start and finish, participants, discipline) are gathered automatically from the external source, but can be edited by the editor who is responsible for the preparation of the show. Any additional information (for example: “This is a medal event”) has to be annotated using the Event Ingest Tool.
