Richard Wages

At present Richard Wages does media research with a focus on computer games and iTV in the LIVE project at the University of Applied Sciences Cologne (UASC). He also is a board member and one of the founders of the NOMADS Lab. He studied mathematics and biology at the University of Tuebingen, the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics and the University of Massachusetts with a focus on epistemology and natural sciences in general (category theory, chaos and system theory, brain research, bioethics). Masters thesis in 1999: 'Homology Theory of Commutative C*-Algebras'. After a short period as an engineer in the mainframe computer testing division at HP Germany in 2000 he joined the Laboratory for Mixed Realities (LMR) at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne as a project leader: From 2001 to 2004 research and development of methods and creative tools for the design of interactive media content in the alVRed project (Nonlinear Dramaturgy in VR Environments) and the MECiTV project (Media Collaboration for iTV). The current areas of research include // aesthetic and interdisciplinary considerations on computer games // nonlinear storytelling in VR, iTV and other interactive media // hierarchies, heterarchies and emergent system behaviour // virtual real-time dramaturge and interactive drama // creative tools // mixed realities // theoretical biology // anticipatory systems
